Social Commerce a Rising Tide

Here’s my latest post at Practical Ecommerce…
The more time I spend looking under the hood of social media marketing as it relates to ecommerce, studying trends, seeing what’s developing, the more I’m convinced that the term social media should be more aptly labeled social commerce.
Social commerce is a subset of electronic commerce that involves using social media, online media that supports social interaction and user contributions, to assist in the online buying and selling of products and services. (wikipedia)
The term was introduced in 2005, but the concept has only gained popular standing in the past few months, thanks in part to sites like Social Commerce Today.

Paul:
The day will come when we pass on the street and my phone will make a recommendation to your phone about a place down the street… and I get a commission when you buy.
A big challenge with all of this is that state of the value chain. The vendor no longer controls on it but relies on it for business. As we rely on external services that are vulnerable to issues on the other side of the world, every service becomes mission critical.

I couldn’t agree more. Anytime spent on Facebook, Twitter, etc. is just like time anywhere else in life, the ads are a predominant factor.
TV? Ads
Driving around? Ads
Ads (commerce) is what makes life move as well as it does for us. Thank God for commerce, thank God for commercials.
